MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Mountaineers Jessica O’Connell and Sarah-Anne Brault represented the program well with strong finishes at the Canadian Track and Field Olympics Trials in Calgary, Alberta.

O’Connell, a Calgary native, finished seventh in the 1,500-meter run finals Friday in 4:26.88 ahead of five other runners.

“It was a tactical race run in very poor distance running conditions,” says WVU coach Sean Cleary. “While her time is well off her best time, she is pleased with her finishing place.”

Malindi Elmore of Speed River Tfc placed first in 4:13.58 followed by Hilary Stellingwerff in 4:13.94. Nicole Sifuentes finished third in 4:14.06 and was pursued by Kate Van Buskirk (4:14.61), Julia Kawamoto (4:15.97) and Carmen Douma-Hussar (4:19.76).

Brault, a Winnipeg, Manitoba native, has been named as an alternate for Team Canada in the triathlon based off her times at recent qualifying races. A 2011 All-American in the 10,000-meter run for WVU, she redshirted the 2012 indoor and outdoor seasons to prepare for the trials.
