MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University rifle coach Jon Hammond announced today that Maren Prediger and Patrick Sunderman will compete at WVU this year.

“I’m really excited about these two student-athletes,” Hammond says. “Maren brings some great international experience and is a very strong air rifle shooter, having competed in many high-level competitions. Patrick also brings experience to the team and has been successful in national junior matches over the past year. These two, along with Garrett Spurgeon, add quality depth to our team, and I’m looking forward to seeing their progress at WVU.”

Prediger, a Petersaurach, Germany, native, brings years of international shooting experience with her to WVU. A member of the German National Team, she is a two-time junior women’s air rifle winner at the German Championships (2010, 2011). She picked up five junior women’s air rifle wins in 2010: ISAS, ISCH, Alpencup, IWK Tirol and the German Championships. Additionally, she also finished 27th in the women’s junior air rifle competition at the ISSF World Shooting Championships.

Prediger earned her first junior air rifle title in 2009 at the Alpencup and finished second at the 2009 European Championships. She owns personal-best marks of 597 in air rifle and 575 in smallbore.

Sunderman, a native of Farmington, Minn., is a three-time rifle state champion. He finished fourth in air rifle at the 2012 Junior Olympic Championships and fifth in smallbore. Additionally, he competed in the 2012 Olympic air rifle trials (part 1 and 2). In total, Sunderman has qualified for three Junior Olympic Championships.

Hammond previously announced the signing of Spurgeon in November. The Canton, Mo., native recently finished second in air rifle at the 2012 Junior Olympics and earned a place on the USA Junior National Team. He also placed fourth in smallbore at the competition. Additionally, at the 2012 USA Shooting National Championships, Spurgeon won the men’s junior air rifle and smallbore titles.
