Meet Kelsie Maloney
With the 2012 season just around the corner, WVUsports.com will get to know the 12 newcomers on the West Virginia women’s soccer team. Today’s edition features Harrisburg, Pa., native Kelsie Maloney.
What attracted you to play soccer at West Virginia University?
Nikki (Izzo-Brown) and her staff played a major role in my decision to attend West Virginia. I also was impressed with the support the team received from the community and its soccer fans.
What do you remember from your visit to campus?
The soccer game had a great atmosphere and something that I wanted to be a part of. I also remember how entertaining Caroline Szwed’s dad was in the stands.
Who has had the biggest influence on your soccer career?
My dad has had the biggest impact on my career because he has coached me since I began playing soccer. He taught me the game and to be confidence in what I do.
What is it about Coach Izzo-Brown that made you want to play for her?
Nikki’s love for the game, the fact that she is family-oriented and her intensity really caught my eye when I visited. I knew she could motivate me and help improve my game.
Of the teams not on your schedule, whom would you like to play most?
I would say North Carolina because of its tradition of success. I like the challenge of competing against the best.
