Mountaineers Picked Second

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men's soccer team was picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference preseason poll, conference officials announced today.

“We obviously have some work to do this season and are working to achieve our goals,” coach Marlon LeBlanc says.

Akron was chosen to win the league and the tournament championship according to the league’s head coaches with 62 points, while WVU was second with 53 votes. Northern Illinois came in at No. 3, only two points behind the Mountaineers.

Western Michigan and Hartwick were separated by just one point at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, while Bowling Green was picked sixth, Buffalo seventh and Florida Atlantic eighth.

West Virginia began preseason practice on Thursday, Aug. 9. The Mountaineers will travel to George Mason for an exhibition match on Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m.
