MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior defender Eric Schoenle of the WVU men’s soccer team has been named to the 2012 Missouri Athletic Club (M.A.C.) Hermann Trophy Watch List, released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) today.

“I’m honored to be selected as part of the Herman Trophy Watch List,” Schoenle says. “To be selected among the top players in the country is a huge honor for me and I’m very humbled to be a part of it.”

The award is considered the highest individual honor in college soccer and the players on the watch list are selected by Division I head coaches who are members of the NSCAA. This is the third consecutive season WVU has had a watch list member as Raymon Gaddis earned the honor in 2010 and 2011.

A native of Yardley, Pa., Schoenle is one of 42 members on the list. He is one of only two members from the Mid-American Conference and is one of 11 defenders. Schoenle has played in 58 career games and has registered eight goals with five assists for 21 points. The 2011 NSCAA Second Team All-American has been a mainstay on the Mountaineers’ nationally ranked defense the past three seasons.

Schoenle will be facing six co-watch list players on the pitch this season including; Sammy Adjei (Iona), Borja Barbero (Iona), Scott Caldwell (Akron), Franklin Castellanos (Iona), Leonardo Fernandes (Stony Brook) and Oscar Otto (Iona).

The NSCAA will release a list of 15 semifinalists by Nov. 29, with three finalists announced Dec. 6. The three finalists will be invited to the M.A.C. banquet in St. Louis, Mo., for a news conference on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, where the winner will be announced.
