Meet Carly Black
With the 2012 season just around the corner, WVUsports.com will get to know the 12 newcomers on the West Virginia women’s soccer team. Today’s edition features Horsham, Pa., native Carly Black.
What attracted you to play soccer at West Virginia University?
First off, I was impressed with Nikki (Izzo-Brown) and her staff, and what the program had accomplished. I got along really well with all of the girls on the team and liked their team chemistry. Add to that, top-notch facilities and it was a place where I wanted to go and spend the next four years.
You committed early in the process. Did you want to get the recruiting process behind you?
I think my (recruiting) process started earlier than other people. I definitely wanted to make a decision pretty early on so I could enjoy my last few years of high school. Picking WVU allowed me to focus on my club team and look forward to my collegiate career. I was having a little trouble picking a school until I came here. I knew right away I wanted to be commit and play for Nikki.
What kind of influence did former Mountaineers like Carolyn Blank have on your decision to attend WVU?
It’s funny because Carolyn sent me a message on Facebook yesterday about my knee. She played a big role in my decision to come here. She and I played for the same club coach, so I was able to pick her brain about West Virginia women’s soccer. We are both family-oriented people and I saw what kind of success she had playing in that environment here that Nikki has created. It’s always good to hear somebody else reaffirm your beliefs.
How did you spend your summer?
I didn’t have much of a summer at all because our school let out so late. I spent a lot of time working out and playing with my club team. And the rest of the time was spent with my family and friends before I had to come here.
Twitter or Facebook?
That’s a tough question because I’m sort of in a transition from Facebook to Twitter. But, let’s go with Facebook.
