Promotional Days Announced

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – As the West Virginia women’s soccer team embarks on its inaugural season in the Big 12 Conference, WVU officials are planning several promotional days this fall for the Mountaineers.

WVU’s home opener with La Salle on Friday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m., is one of three matches designated as “Dollar Days” with all tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Colas available for purchase for just one dollar each. The following games also are scheduled as “Dollar Days” – Sept. 14 vs. Towson, 7 p.m.; Oct. 18 vs. Oklahoma, 7 p.m.

The home opener against the Explorers is also “Poster Day.” Fans can pick up a free 2012 WVU women’s soccer schedule poster featuring Nicolette DeLaurentis, Sara Keane, Kate Schwindel, Frances Silva and Mallory Smith.

The Aug. 31 contest against Penn State is a Gold Rush with fans encouraged to wear gold in the stands to cheer on the Mountaineers in Friday’s matchup in the WVU 90 Minute Classic. The Mountaineer Maniacs will distribute gold t-shirts to the first 100 fans through the gate.

Area high schools are invited to attend West Virginia’s match with Miami on Sept. 2 by completing the high school form on WVUsports.com’s promotion page. The Towson match also is WVU faculty-staff appreciation day.

WVU’s match with Texas Tech on Friday, Sept. 21 is “Camp Reunion Night” as all women’s soccer campers from this past summer are asked to wear their camp t-shirt to the game.

Area youth soccer teams are encouraged to attend the Sunday, Sept. 23 match against defending Big 12 champion Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls and Mountaineers, were No. 1 and 2 in the coaches’ preseason poll, will kick at noon in celebration of U.S. Youth Soccer Month.

Friday, Oct. 12 is Breast Cancer Awareness Night when the Mountaineers take on Big 12 foe Baylor at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear pink as the WVU coaching staff makes a check presentation to the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center.

WVU’s final home match on Thursday, Oct. 18 against Oklahoma will serve as “Senior Night” for five Mountaineers – DeLaurentis, Caitlin Hulyo, Bry McCarthy, Bri Rodriguez and Smith. The match will be televised by FOX Soccer as part of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America College Soccer Game of the Week.

West Virginia opens the 2012 season, the 17th in program history, against La Salle on Friday, at 7 p.m.
