With the 2012 season just around the corner, WVUsports.com will get to know the 12 newcomers on the West Virginia women’s soccer team. Today’s edition features Lititz, Pa., native Caitlin Hulyo. Hulyo is enrolled in graduate school at WVU with one year of eligibility remaining after four years at Colorado College.

What attracted you to play soccer at West Virginia University with one remaining season of eligibility?
At this time last year, I wasn’t sure if I would still be playing soccer after an almost-career ending shoulder injury. The surgery was successful and I was given the okay to play. The opportunity to play at West Virginia came up and I pretty much jumped on it. I thought why not go out with a bang and play for a program with the successful reputation that West Virginia has.

How did you end up selecting which graduate path to take?
The MSIR program was one of several options I had. Having an English degree in hand, I thought it would parlay really well into a human resources and industrial relations master’s degree.

You can only play one goalkeeper at a time, unlike the other positions on the field. What are your goals for this season?
Having four years of experience at Colorado College, I hope to share that experience with the younger girls on the team, including the other goalkeepers. That is first and foremost. Yes, I would love to play and contribute major minutes. At the same time, I know I am competing with (Sara) Keane and Katie (Osterman) each and every day. It’s a healthy competition that will only help our team in the end.
