MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team will begin its 2012 season on Saturday, August 18, with a Gold-Blue intrasquad scrimmage at the WVU Coliseum at noon.

“The scrimmage gives us a good opportunity to have all of our newcomers play in the Coliseum as it is set up for a match,” coach Jill Kramer says. “It gives our entire staff, including support staff, the opportunity to have a real match environment and get all the kinks out.

“It also gives us an opportunity to work on some different lineups and start to meet the fans. We are also hosting a free kids’ clinic after the scrimmage that our girls always enjoy.”

The Mountaineers return three letterwinners and welcome nine newcomers under the direction of third-year coach Kramer.

WVU’s season is set to officially begin on Aug. 24-25 with the Mountaineer Invitational. WVU will play host to St. Francis, Central Connecticut and Loyola-Maryland at the Coliseum. The team’s first match is against St. Francis on Friday at 2 p.m.

Admission is free Saturday and open to the public. Along with the free kids’ clinic, there will be an autograph session with the team after the scrimmage.
