MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team competed it its annual Gold-Blue intrasquad scrimmage with Team Gold claiming a 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 26-24, 15-13) victory on Saturday.

“It was a good opportunity for us to be in the environment that we will play in at the Coliseum and we got to work on a few lineups,” coach Jill Kramer says. “This was a great thing for us to do leading into the week before we have our first home match here at the Coliseum.”

Freshman outside hitter Nikki Attea led all hitters with 12 kills while freshman outside hitter Hannah Sackett and freshman middle blocker Caleah Wells each chipped in nine.

Team Blue was led by senior setter Karly Rasmussen who recorded a double-double of 26 assists and 12 digs.

The Mountaineers open the 2012 regular season by hosting St. Francis, Central Connecticut and Loyola-Maryland in the Mountaineer Invitational. The first match against St. Francis is slated to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24 at the WVU Coliseum.
