MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University gymnastics coach Jason Butts announced today the addition of invited walk-on Melissa Idell for the 2013 season.

“We’re excited Melissa is on campus. She is the perfect addition to this freshman class,” says second-year Mountaineer coach Jason Butts. “Melissa has a great personality and fits in well with the whole team. She has competed high-level skills and comes to college with everything she needs to be competitive and a strong contender on vault, beam and floor. I look for her to contribute right away on floor.”

A native of Newark, Del., Idell qualified for the 2011 state and regional championships as a level 10 gymnast out of First State Gymnastics. She finished fourth on vault, fifth on beam and sixth in the all-around at the 2010 level 9 regional championships. That same year, she also placed second on beam and floor, fourth on vault and fifth in the all-around at the Eastern National Championships.

Idell finished first in the all-around at the 2011 level 10 Arnold Gymnastics Challenge. She attended the 2011 Maryland Gymnastics Camp and the 2010 University of Florida Gymnastics Camp. She participated in the 2010 Region 7 High Performance Clinic and is an alum of the 2009 Woodward Camp.
