MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 22 West Virginia men’s soccer team will begin a four-game homestand when it takes on Oakland for a non-conference match on Sunday, Sept. 9, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The match will start at 1 p.m.
The Mountaineers (2-2-1) are coming off a 0-0 draw at Penn State on Thursday in which the teams each took 13 shots, while WVU held a 7-3 corner kick advantage.
Seniors Travis Pittan
and Peabo Doue
, along with freshman Jamie Merriam
, each have one goal to lead the Mountaineers. Defensively, senior Eric Schoenle
and freshman Nick Raskasky
have played every minute of every game, while freshman Haydon Bennett
has been a bright spot alongside Schoenle after starting his first career match at Penn State.
In goal, senior Pat Eavenson
is 2-2-1 with a 0.57 goals-against average (GAA) in five starts, making 11 saves. Eavenson earned his second shutout of the season at Penn State by making two saves.
Oakland is off to a 3-0 start, defeating New Hampshire, Cleveland State and Vermont, all at home.
Offensively, the squad is led by Johnny Deshaj and Miche’le Lipari who each have two goals apiece, while Kyle Bethel has netted one goal. Sean Magee leads the team with two assists.
Scott Messer has started all three games in net for the Golden Grizzlies, not allowing a goal and making 12 saves.
Eric Pogue is in his fourth season at the helm of Oakland, leading the team to both a Summit League regular season and tournament title in his first three seasons.
