Tennis Finishes Play in Wilmington
In a continuation of a match that began on Saturday evening, freshman Hailey Barrett was defeated by Susita Das 6-7(4), 6-2, 3-6. “Hailey played well for most of the weekend,” said coach Tina Samara. “In order to keep progressing at this level, though, she will have to work on getting off to a better start in the early parts of a match.” Barrett closed out her tournament by dropping a decision to teammate Emily Mathis 3-6, 4-6, 10-7. “Emily has been doing what she has always done with us,” Samara said. “She continues to fight for each point, and with the way things have been changing positively in our program, she has continued to grow as a tennis player and has shown an appreciation of what is going on around her.” In the Flight D singles championship match, freshman Vivian Tsui, who won two-consecutive matches yesterday afternoon, was defeated by Hamilton Lovett in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Following a weekend off this coming weekend, the Mountaineers will continue their fall season on Sept. 21-23, as they will head to Austin, Texas for the Texas Fall Invitational.
