Men’s Soccer Set for American

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 21 West Virginia University men’s soccer team will host American on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

The game has been designated as a “Dollar Night,” with all tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Colas available for one dollar each.

The Mountaineers enter the contest owning a 3-2-1 overall mark after defeating Oakland, 4-2, at home last Sunday. Senior Eric Schoenle, junior Craig Stephens, sophomore Andy Bevin and freshman Ryan Cain all scored the first goal of their respective seasons.

Offensively, WVU is led by senior Peabo Doue, who has one goal and two assists totaling four points. Seven different Mountaineers have scored a goal thus far in the young season.

In between the posts, senior Pat Eavenson has started six matches, playing 560 minutes in goal. He has allowed five goals, while making 17 saves for a 0.80 goals-against average. Eavenson has two shutouts.

American is 4-2-0, winning its last two matches against Saint Peter’s (2-0) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (3-1). The Eagles are out-scoring their opponents 15-5, however they give up more shots (77-79) than they take.

Offensively, Alassane Kane and Colin Seigfreid lead the team with nine points with Kane scoring four goals and Seigfreid tallying three goals. Kane leads the team in shots with 16.

Billy Knutsen has played in six contests in net with a 4-2-0 record. He has allowed five goals and has made 23 stops, for a .821 save percentage and goals-against average of 0.85. Knutsen owns two clean sheets this season.

Todd West is in his 13th season at the helm of American and has a career record of 110-104-27. West has guided the Eagles to three NCAA Tournament appearances.

WVU is 2-1-0 all-time against the Eagles, including a 1-0 mark at home. The teams last met in 2006 in Morgantown with WVU winning 2-1 in overtime.
