MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senor defender Eric Schoenle of the West Virginia University men’s soccer team is one of 30 candidates for the 2012 Senior CLASS Award, the organization announced today.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

A native of Yardley, Pa., Schoenle has played 65 matches, all starts, and has scored 10 goals with five assists. Six of Schoenle’s goals have been game-winning goals. Schoenle has seen action in all seven games of 2012, registering two goals on eight shots.

In 2011, Schoenle was named an NSCAA All-America Third Team member, as well as an NSCAA All-Northeast Region First Team honoree. For Schoenle’s complete award biography, visit http://www.seniorclassaward.com/athletes/eric_schoenle/.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer College Cup, which will be held Dec. 7 and Dec. 9 in Hoover, Ala.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, Division I men’s coaches and fans who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
