Cross Country Competes at Bubble Buster

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 25-ranked West Virginia University cross country team competed at the Toledo Inter-Regional Bubble Buster on Friday and finished the meet in 11th place.

The Mountaineers finished with 334 points for 11th out of 14 teams while Butler won the event after having three runners finish in the top 10. San Francisco took second with 86 points while Columbia (92), Toledo (98), Syracuse (104) completed the top 5. BYU (143), Iowa (147), Portland (194), Ohio (220) and Navy (257) all finished ahead of WVU while Lipscomb (345), Eastern Michigan (390) and Charlotte (405) rounded out the rest of the field.

“This was a positive experience for the girls,” coach Sean Cleary says. “Everybody that ran here today ran faster than they did last year on the same course. This will be a nice set up for next weekend.”

Racing in her first event since the WVU Alumni Open, freshman Sydney Scott finished first for WVU with a 4k time of 14:00.4. Redshirt senior Aubrey Moskal was the second Mountaineer to cross the line and improved her 4k time from the last year’s Bubble Buster by crossing the line at 14:17.1.

Sophomore Kelly Williams was next for WVU with a time of 14:20.3 while redshirt senior Hallie Portner and redshirt junior Chelsea Jarvis rounded out the scoring runners for WVU by finishing with 4k times of 14:33.9 and 15:39.6, respectively.

The Mountaineers will compete next at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky., on Sept. 29.
