West Virginia remained seventh in this week’s USA Today coaches’ poll and moved down one spot to No. 9 in this week’s Associated Press poll, both released earlier today.

The Mountaineers had a more-difficult-than-expected 31-21 victory over Maryland Saturday afternoon at Milan Puskar Stadium.

Senior Tavon Austin had 13 catches for 179 yards and scored all three offensive touchdowns for the Mountaineers, while quarterback Geno Smith completed 30-of-43 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns against the Terps.

West Virginia is in the AP top 10 for the third straight week this year and the 81st week overall in school history.

The Big 12 has six of its 10 teams ranked in this week’s AP poll, including West Virginia’s Saturday opponent Baylor, which checks in at No. 25 after outlasting Louisiana-Monroe last Friday night.

The Baylor game will represent West Virginia’s first ever Big 12 game and will kickoff at noon. FX is televising the game nationally.
