Silva Named Athlete of the Week
Against Texas Tech, the Overland Park, Kan., native gave the Mountaineers an early 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute and connected on the game-winner on a penalty kick after being taken down in the box. She became the first Mountaineer to score multiple goals in three consecutive games.
Silva scored her second straight game-winning goal in WVU’s upset win over No. 7 ranked Oklahoma State. She has scored seven goals in the last four matches, and became the fourth different Mountaineer to score a goal in four consecutive matches, and the first since Megan Mischler in 2010.
The Mountaineers are 5-0-0 this season when Silva scores a goal. Dating back to last season, Silva has a goal or an assist in eight of WVU’s last nine conference games – all wins.
