MORGANTOWN, W.Va.– The West Virginia University cross country team will travel to Louisville, Ky., for the 5k Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic on Sept. 29 with the race slated to begin at 10:15 a.m., at the E.P. ‘Tom’ Sawyer State Park.

West Virginia will face seven nationally ranked teams including three in the top 10 with the Mountaineers racing against No.1 Washington, No. 8 Vanderbilt and No. 10 Arkansas.

“We are excited to get back into action this weekend,” coach Sean Cleary says. “The vast majority of our group will be racing this weekend and some are familiar with Louisville. We raced on the course twice last year and will have a basis to compare performances. We will return to the same course in two weeks for Pre-Nationals and this will be a good asker for where we are in preparation for the later part of our season.”

Sophomore Savanna Plombon and redshirt juniors Jordan Hamric and Sarah Martinelli will return to the lineup for the Mountaineers after sitting out the Toledo Inter-Regional Bubble Buster on Sept. 21. Plombon finished first for WVU at the Penn State Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational on Sept. 8 after crossing the line in 14th place with a 6k time of 22:07. Hamric followed closely behind in 17th while Martinelli finished in 24th.

Freshmen Sydney Scott, redshirt seniors Aubrey Moskal and Hallie Portner, sophomore Kelly Williams and redshirt junior Chelsea Jarvis will also race at the meet after competing at the Bubble Buster last weekend along with freshman Megan Yuan who will be racing in her first competition of the 2012 season.

Results from the race can be found at alltraxtiming.com and will be posted on WVUsports.com shortly after the completion of the competition.
