Football Player Quotes
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The West Virginia football team addressed members of the media Tuesday night. The Mountaineers travel to Austin, Texas, to face nationally ranked Texas in Big 12 Conference action at Darrell K Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium (100,119) on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m.
On Baylor’s tempo
It wasn’t as bad as I thought. There were a lot of big plays. We stopped them on the little plays, but it was the big plays that killed us. It wasn’t as bad as I thought, but it was still terrible at the same time.
On confidence after seeing game plans work
It does something for our confidence. We know we made some nice plays, and we get there at the right time and in the right spots, but we didn’t execute that well.
On attitude in practice
You see how tired I am, I’m exhausted. We were running all day; running to the ball, high tempo. We are trying to get our confidence back, and show everybody that that wasn’t really us.
On defense coming together to move ahead
I think we had to just watch the film and talk about the positives we had; we didn’t really harp on the negatives. We came together and saw that a lot stuff that happened was correctable, just misalignments, not getting the right guy or lining up inside instead of outside. Just little stuff like that, they took advantage of and usually teams take advantage of other teams mistakes, and they did to the max. We were discouraged after the game, watching the film and seeing the stuff we made mistakes on. We are starting to get our confidence back, like hey we’re still a good defense, we just need to prove it.
On coming to the realization they are still a good defense
Well before we started to watch film, coach DeForest had the whole defense in here and was just talking to us, and showed us some bad effort and good effort plays. The bad effort plays weren’t even really just not running to the ball, it was the fact that misalignments, miss assignments, just being out of position just little things like that. It made us realize that we didn’t play as bad a game as we thought. It was just that we made stupid mistakes and they capitalized on it,
On going up against Texas’ two defensive ends
They are both very good athletic physical players, and im really just excited to go out there this week and compete and just work hard every play and battle in the trenches.
On looking forward to the first true road game
I’m excited! So far this week everyone has been talking about how great the Texas stadium is a place to play and how much energy it has. I’m really excited, I’ve never been there before and I’m excited to go out there and play for the first time.
On if they will play different at Texas vs. any other team because of who they are
No, we play hard every week and go out there and compete. No matter who we are playing we want to go out there and not only win the game, but become better players ourselves and become better offensive linemen.
On how he feels after playing time increased last week
During the game it was exciting, it was my second time back on the field, but you know I got a little more carries so that’s always exciting.
On any hesitation on mentally getting over his injury
In the begging there was a little hesitation. During practice I was a little hesitant, but once it was game time I felt 100%, I was confident in my cuts and in my knees. So you know as the game went on, as I started getting a little more playing time I got a lot more comfortable
On if he sees his play time increasing
I definitely feel like I will get a little more increase in playing time. Talking with Gillespie and Holgorsen, they see that I am getting a lot more confident in my ability and things like that so I see my play time increasing.
