MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the second time this season, a West Virginia women’s soccer player has been named the Disney Soccer/ National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Player of the Week. Sophomore Kate Schwindel was recognized after helping the Mountaineers remain in first place in the Big 12 standings with a five-point weekend.

Against Kansas on Oct. 5, Schwindel scored the game-winning goal for her eighth score of the season. Two days later, she dished out assists on all three goals in WVU’s 3-2 win at Iowa State.

The three-assist day is the second of Schwindel’s career, matching her three-helper day against High Point earlier this season. The three assists tie a school record for assists in a single game.

The Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week is announced every Wednesday, and is selected by a committee from nominations submitted primarily by NCAA Division I conferences.

Winners will also be recognized each week during NSCAA College Game of the Week broadcasts on FOX Soccer. Teammate Frances Silva was named player of the week on Sept. 26.

West Virginia checks in at No. 16 in this week’s Soccer America Top 25 rankings and No. 25 in the latest NSCAA poll. WVU returns to action against No. 20 Baylor on Friday, Oct. 12, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
