AMES, Iowa – The West Virginia University volleyball team dropped its Wednesday night match to Iowa State 3-0 (15-25, 13-25, 16-25), at the Hilton Coliseum.

The Cyclones (10-6, 4-2 Big 12) had 38 kills and 55 digs, while the Mountaineers (8-12, 0-6 Big 12) hit a season-low .010 hitting percentage.

The two teams traded points to begin the first set until a 9-2 serving run by the Cyclones put Iowa State up 12-6. Another 6-0 serving run extended the lead for Iowa State before WVU closed the gap with a balanced offensive attack. The Mountaineers held off set point with two kills from freshman middle blocker Caleah Wells, but a final kill from Jamie Straube gave the Cyclones the set.

The Mountaineers started the second set strong by capitalizing off of errors by Iowa State and a block from Wells and freshman setter Brittany Sample to take a 6-4 lead. The Cyclones took the lead back after eight unanswered points before sophomore middle blocker Evyn McCoy would stop the run with a kill. The Mountaineers struggled offensively the rest of the set as Iowa State went on to take the second set and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Iowa State used the momentum from the first two sets to take the third set and the match.

Freshman outside hitter Nikki Attea and junior outside hitter Elzbieta Klein led WVU with six kills apiece while Klein also led the defense with 12 digs.

The team will return to Morgantown for a match Saturday, Oct. 13 against Texas Tech at 1 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum.
