Burnett Named Athlete of the Week
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Senior Rachael Burnett of the women’s swimming squad has been named the WVU Athlete of the Week for her performance in last weekend’s West Virginia State Games, in which the Mountaineers took first place.
A native of Springfield, Va., Burnett took first place individually in the 100 free, 200 free, 500 free, 1650 free, 200 IM and 400 IM, while finishing in first place as a member of the 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 400 free relay and 800 free relay. Burnett broke pool records in the 500 free (4:54.84), 1650 free (17:08.08), 200 IM (2:05.18), 400 IM (4:28.54), 200 medley relay (1:46.92) and 800 free relay (7:43.72).
Through her career, Burnett now has 64 first-place finishes in individual events and 22 first-place finishes in relay events. Not counting NCAA Championships, she has won the 500 free 26 of the 28 times she has swam it.

No. 20 Baylor used a goal with 13 seconds remaining in regulation to earn a 1-1 draw with 16th-ranked West Virginia on Oct. 12 … junior midfielder Kara Blosser gave the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute off a blast into the right corner from 16 yards out … WVU’s defense held tight until the final moments of the match when a foul was committed at the top of the box … BU leading scorer Dana Larsen took a direct kick, driving a ball around the Mountaineer wall of players and into the right side of the goal for the equalizer … West Virginia moved to 9-3-4 (5-0-1 Big 12), while Baylor moved to 11-1-3 (2-0-2 Big 12) … Goalkeeper Sara Keane was outstanding in net, tying a career high with eight saves for WVU … the Mountaineers have not lost since a 2-1 double overtime decision to Penn State on Aug. 31.
