Divers Sweep Penn State
“The WVU divers set the bar high for the season today,” diving coach Michael Grapner says. “They have all been training hard and today it started to all come together.” Sophomore Haily VandePoel broke her own WVU record with a first-place finish on the 3-meter board, scoring 300.00 points. Freshmen Lindsay Schmidt (253.58 points) and Tori Taffner (221.48 points) placed second and third, respectively. Schmidt then placed first on the 1-meter, qualifying for the NCAA Zone Championships with a score of 267.68 points. VandePoel placed second (248.63 points), followed by sophomore Jenn Rey in third (233.18). Freshman Christian Parker led the men with a victory on the 3-meter board, scoring 306.75 points for his first collegiate victory. Junior Richard Pokorny finished in second place (296.10 points) and junior Liam McLaughlin took fifth place (248.40 points). McLaughlin had redemption on the 1-meter board, finishing in first place with 288.15 points, while Parker finished third (258.08 points) and Pokorny came in fourth (256.35 points). The swimming portion of the meet will be held on Friday, Oct. 19, at the WVU Natatorium. Action is set to get underway at 5 p.m. |
