Team Trout Wins World Series

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Team Trout used a 10-run sixth inning to defeat Team Matlock, 12-9, and win the West Virginia University baseball Gold-Blue World Series on Thursday evening at Hawley Field.

The sixth inning comeback was the second in as many days for Team Trout, as they took game one, 9-6, after putting up a 5-run frame in the sixth inning.

After falling to a deficit of 7-2 entering the inning, Team Trout sent 13 batters to the box, scoring 10 runs on four hits to take the lead. Chris Rasky tied the game at 7-7 as he scored on a bases loaded walk to Ryan Tuntland. In the following at bat, Ryan McBroom broke the game open with a bases loaded double to the left field gap, while Jacob Rice followed by with a two-run home run to deep left field, bringing the score to 12-7.

Seven different batters recorded a hit for Team Trout, including two hits from Bobby Boyd. McBroom drove in a game-high three runs, while Boyd, Rice and Justin Fox had two RBIs apiece.

Team Matlock jumped out to an early lead as they were ahead 7-2 after four innings. A four-run third inning highlighted Team Matlock’s afternoon as six different players recorded a hit in the inning.

Brady Wilson led Team Matlock with three hits, followed by two hits apiece by Matt Frazer, Billy Fleming, Maverick Myers and Billy Sager. Frazer and Sager each drove in two runs apiece.

Starter Corey Walter went four innings for Team Matlock, and Harrison Musgrave lasted into the third inning for Team Trout.

Game three will be held tomorrow, with pregame beginning at 2:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
