Men’s Soccer Travels to Northern Illinois

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s soccer team will travel to Northern Illinois for a Mid-American Conference match on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.

West Virginia (8-4-2, 3-1-1 MAC) is currently in second place in the MAC, while Northern Illinois (3-8-3, 2-1-1 MAC) is tied for third place.

The Mountaineers were in action last Saturday, falling at No. 2 Akron, 2-1. Freshman Majed Osman scored WVU’s goal in the 52nd minute. The goal ended Akron’s shutout streak of 713 minutes that stretched over nine matches. Senior Uwem Etuk earned his team-leading sixth assist on the goal.

Osman, Etuk and senior Eric Schoenle each have 10 points to lead the Mountaineers, while Schoenle leads the team with five goals. Thirteen different Mountaineers have recorded a goal this season, while 15 have recorded at least one point.

Senior goalkeeper Pat Eavenson will start in net, coming into the match with a 1.00 goals-against average and four shutouts in 12 starts.

Northern Illinois is coming into the game after defeating Northwestern on the road in overtime, 1-0, last Wednesday in non-conference action.

Offensively, Northern Illinois is led by Gael Rivera (4 goals, 0 assists) and James Stevenson (3 goals, 2 assists), who each have eight points.

Jordan Godsey has started all 15 games in goal and has a 1.12 goals-against average. Godsey has made 63 saves with 18 goals against and six shutouts.

This will be the first-ever men’s soccer match between the two schools.
