MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- The No.1- ranked West Virginia University rifle team will host No. 12 Navy Saturday, Oct. 27, at the WVU Rifle Range, at 8 a.m.
The Mountaineers (4-0, 2-0 GARC) are returning to competition after shooting a NCAA-best team score of 4717 during their win over No. 8 Memphis on Oct. 16.
“We’ve gotten off to a great start this season,” says coach Jon Hammond. “They are shooting and progressing really well.”
The Mountaineers are 21-8 all-time against the Midshipmen (1-0). Navy defeated the Devils of the University of Sciences Philadelphia on Oct. 13, with a score of 4623-4334.
“What I would like to see is consistency; to continue to have solid, consistent performances,” says Hammond. “I’m not so worried about what the numbers are or what the specific scores are. I just want them to continue what they’ve been doing in training.”
Senior Petra Zublasing
led the Mountaineers to the win against Memphis, shooting 587 smallbore and 597 air rifle, for a combined score of 1184. Freshman Garrett Spurgeon
