Rowing Set to Compete at Head of Schuylkill

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- The West Virginia University rowing team is set to compete at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pa., on Saturday, Oct, 27.

The Mountaineers are entering five crews in the regatta.

Two crews will be racing in the women’s open 8+ and three crews will compete in the women’s open 4+.

Last year, the Varsity 4+ ‘A’ crew of Hilary Meale, Shannon Gribbons, Courtney Schrand, Rachelle Purych and coxswain Morgan Leach crossed the finish line of the 2.5-mile course in 15:51.76 for a fifth-place finish.

In addition to the ‘A’ crew, the ‘C’ crew of Danika Rencken, Jessica Hurlbert, Christina Mehrtens, Karen Verwey and coxswain Ellen Shular finished the race in 16:43.34 to place 18th overall.

The ‘B’ crew of Brittany Doss, Amanda Hirsch, Kelly Kramer, Mollie Rosen and coxswain Sarah Cartwright rounded out the top 20, finishing in 16:58.34.

The Mountaineers had two crews set to compete in the women’s eight event that was canceled due to weather last year.
