Brault Named Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - After finishing 10th and garnering All-Big 12 honors in her first race of the 2012 season, senior Sarah-Anne Brault has been named West Virginia University Student-Athlete of the Week.

Brault led the Mountaineers to a fourth-place finish this past Saturday at their first-ever Big 12 Championships in Austin, Texas at the Jimmy Clay Golf Course. This is the second year in a row that Brault has earned all-conference honors after finishing in eighth place at last year’s Big East Championships.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native crossed the line in 10th place out of 87 runners, with a 6k time of 20:52.8. This is the fifth top 10 finish for Brault in her career.

The Mountaineers next competition has the team traveling back to State College, Pa., for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Friday, Nov. 9, at noon on the Blue and White Golf Course. This will be the team’s second time running the course this season after finishing in fourth at the Penn State Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational on Sept. 8.

The No. 14 West Virginia women’s soccer team used a goal in the 98th minute to win its final regular-season match, topping host Texas, 1-0, on Oct. 26 … junior Kara Blosser scored her third goal of the season at the 97:06 mark by finishing a ball at the back post following WVU’s fourth corner kick of the night … forward Kate Schwindel picked up her team-best eighth goal of the season to give her a team-high 26 points … neither team could put together a consistent offensive rhythm, forcing a lot of action in the midfield throughout the contest … the Longhorns had perhaps their best scoring chance of the night erased by a sliding save from Mountaineer goalkeeper Sara Keane in the 39th minute … Keane finished with eight saves … UT held an 11-7 edge in shots … Keane closed with seven saves to help WVU post its seventh shutout of the season.
