MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University swimming and diving teams will travel to Cincinnati for a meet on Friday, Nov. 2, beginning at 4 p.m.
The squads combined for 24 first-place finishes last weekend at Villanova. The men’s team was victorious against the Wildcats, winning by a score of 174-113. The women’s team also faced James Madison in a double-dual meet and won against both opponents, beating Villanova 171-128, and James Madison 163-137.
For the women, senior Rachael Burnett
won the 200 free (1:51.31), 500 free (4:56.76) and 1000 free (10:03.84), while senior Mandie Nugent
scored two wins in the 100 fly (56.29) and 200 fly (2:02.66). Junior Danielle Smith
took the 100 back (57.40) and the 200 back (2:01.27).
The men’s squad was led with three wins from freshman Chase Williams
in the 100 fly (51.44), 200 fly (1:54.64) and 200 IM (1:56.42). Sophomore Christopher Brill
added wins in the 100 breast (58.38) and 200 breast (2:08.79), while freshman Christian Parker
qualified for the NCAA Zone Championships with a first-place finish on the 3-meter (322.50 points) board.
Cincinnati opened its season on Oct. 19, splitting a dual meet with Xavier. The women won 188.5-96.5, while the men fell 158-136. Jessica Piper led the women with wins in the 200 free, 200 back and 200 IM, while Joe Bott scored a victory in the 1000 free for the men.
Last season in Morgantown, the men (178-107) and women (191-104) defeated the Bearcats. Burnett scored wins in the 200 free, 500 free and 400 IM for the women, and Daeton Davenport
finished first in the 1650 free.
