Men's Soccer Closes Regular Season
Heading into the final week of the season, the Mountaineers and Falcons are currently tied for second place with Western Michigan and Northern Illinois in the MAC. Akron has wrapped up first place and will host the MAC Championship next weekend. Thirteen different players have scored at least one goal this season, led by senior Eric Schoenle with five goals. Schoenle (5 g, 0 a), senior Uwem Etuk (2 g, 6 a) and freshman Majed Osman (3 g, 4 a) are tied for the team lead with 10 points apiece. The Mountaineers (8-5-2, 3-2-1 MAC) are coming off a 1-0 loss on the road last weekend against Northern Illinois. WVU finished with the edge in shots (10-9), shots on goal (7-4) and corner kicks (6-3). Coach Eric Nichols is in his fourth season at the helm of Bowling Green. The Falcons are outscoring opponents 23-20, despite giving up 100 more shots than taken on the year. Bowling Green (8-7-3, 3-2-1 MAC) is led defensively by goalkeeper Michael Wiest. Wiest has started all 18 matches, allowing 20 goals and making 94 saves with a 1.06 goals-against average. Offensively, Anthony Grant has scored a team-best eight goals with four assists for 20 points. Danny Baraldi is second in scoring with 19 points (6 g, 7 a).
