Former Mountaineer standout Alex Ruoff was drafted by the Erie Bayhawks in the second round of the 2012 NBA Developmental League draft held Friday night in New York City.
Erie is the developmental team for the New York Knicks.
An all-Big East honorable mention selection during his senior year at West Virginia University in 2009, Ruoff averaged 15.7 points per game while leading the team in 3-point shooting by hitting 88 of his 236 3-point field goal tries for 37.6 percent. The 6-6 guard scored a career-high 38 points against Radford on Dec. 23, 2008, and finished his career with 1,420 points, good for 20th all time.
After college, Ruoff spent some time playing professionally overseas in Belgium.
Also, former Mountaineer Truck Bryant was taken in the fourth round by the Texas Legends. Bryant averaged 16.9 points per game last season for the 19-14 Mountaineers and finished his career scoring 1,590 points, which places him 14th on the school’s all-time scoring list.
Texas is affiliated with the Dallas Mavericks.
