MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Sarah-Anne Brault finished her West Virginia University cross country career strong by coming in 76th at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Ky., Saturday morning.

Brault, a three time NCAA All-Mid Atlantic Region honoree, crossed the line at the E.P. ‘Tom’ Sawyer State Park in her fourth consecutive NCAA Championship with a 6k time of 20:36.

“Sarah had a solid run out there,” coach Sean Cleary says. “In a race like this, if you are just the slightest bit off your game, you can be passed by 50 runners in a matter of moments. Sarah needed about 15 seconds quicker to earn that coveted All-America status. We needed a few more weeks to have her in peak shape. Sarah has been playing catch up since being named an Olympic alternate this past summer and we simply ran out of time. We are very excited to see her back with us and now ready to train properly for track.”

Iowa State’s Betsy Saina won the event with a 6k time of 19:27, while Abbey D’Agostino (Dartmouth), Jordan Hasay (Oregon), Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton (Wichita State) and Risper Kimaiyo (UTEP) rounded out the rest of the top five individual finishers.

Oregon took the team title for the first time since 1987 with 114 points, while former Big East foe Providence placed second with 183 points. Stanford (198) took third place, while Florida State (202) and Michigan (247) finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

This concludes the 2012 season for WVU.
