Women’s Swimming Ranked No. 23

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s swimming and diving team has entered the Endless Pools/ Top 25 this week, checking in at No. 23 according to the web site.

The Top 25 reflects each team’s best performance meets swum over a rolling four-week period. This week’s rankings reflect performances swum Oct. 22-Nov. 18.

West Virginia cracked the Top 25 after a second-place finish at the Pitt Invitational last weekend. Senior Mandie Nugent (100 fly, 200 fly) and junior Danielle Smith (100 back, 200 back) scored two individual wins apiece, while sophomores Jenelle Zee (100 breast) and Haily VandePoel (3-meter) each had one individual victory.

The Mountaineers earned four relay victories in the 400 free relay (junior Eva Burlingham, freshman Jaimee Gillmore, Smith, senior Rachael Burnett), 800 free relay (Burnett, senior Kata Fodor, Nugent, Smith), 200 medley relay (Smith, Zee, sophomore Julie Ogden, Burlingham) and 400 medley relay (senior Nikki Vetterlein, senior Breanna McCann, Ogden, Burlingham).

The team is now training for the U.S. Winter Nationals in Austin, Texas, held from Nov. 29 through Dec. 1. Representing the women’s team will be Burlingham, Burnett, Fodor, McCann, Nugent, Ogden, Smith, Vetterlein and Zee.
