MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia women’s soccer player Bry McCarthy
was named to TopDrawerSoccer’s Team of the Season Third Team today, becoming one of 33 players named to its version of All-America teams.
McCarthy, an outside back, was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in her senior season. She became the program’s first defensive player to earn a conference major award. An All-Big 12 First Team selection, McCarthy led the defense to eight shutouts this season, including four in Big 12 play. The four clean sheets were tied for best in the conference.
An Ajax, Ontario, native, McCarthy also has played a vital part in the offense, moving forward into the attack to score seven points on two goals and three assists. She will leave West Virginia with 19 career assists, tied for ninth place all-time in program history.
McCarthy led WVU in its inaugural season in the Big 12 Conference to a regular-season championship with a 7-0-1 record. It marked only the sixth time a Big 12 team has won the regular-season title without a loss. West Virginia’s 2012 season ended with a 13th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.
