MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia women’s soccer’s Bry McCarthy cemented her name among the nation’s best players, landing a spot on the 2012 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire All-America Third Team.

“We are thrilled with Bry’s All-America selection,” said coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “She has a tremendous amount of ability and has represented West Virginia University in such a positive light over the past four seasons. She has worked hard to be an impact player, and it’s great to see her rewarded for her efforts.”

McCarthy, an outside back who was named to TopDrawerSoccer’s Team of the Season earlier this week, was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in her senior season. She became the program’s first defensive player to earn a conference major award. An All-Big 12 First Team selection, McCarthy led the defense to eight shutouts this season, including four in Big 12 play. The four clean sheets were tied for best in the conference.

An Ajax, Ontario, native, McCarthy also has played a vital part in the offense, moving forward into the attack to score seven points on two goals and three assists. She will leave West Virginia with 19 career assists, tied for ninth place all-time in program history.

McCarthy led West Virginia to a Big 12 championship in its inaugural season and a 13th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance. She becomes the 15th All-America selection under coach Izzo-Brown.
