MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team is set to begin its 2012-13 season with the Marty Puskin Track Classic on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 9 a.m., at the WVU Shell Building.

The field events start at 9 a.m., with the running events to follow at 10 a.m. Schools competing include Frostburg State, Juniata College, Waynesburg, West Liberty State, Wheeling Jesuit and West Virginia Wesleyan.

“It is always exciting to kick start the season with this meet,” coach Sean Cleary says. “The majority of the girls that are competing this weekend have been training very hard since August. We feel that this meet is a springboard into the track season. We want to find out exactly where they are and figure out what we need to work on for the future.

“This meet has been around for many years. It is a tradition that we are very proud of and we want to find out who we are.”

Saturday marks the beginning of the 36th season of track and field at WVU and the sixth under the direction of Cleary. Since taking over the program in 2008, Cleary has coached 12 different Mountaineers to All-America status on 33 occasions. WVU returns 32 letterwinners from the 2011-12 season, including 2011 All-American Sarah-Anne Brault in the 10,000-meter run. The Mountaineers also return five athletes who competed at the 2012 NCAA East Outdoor Regional including Sydney Cummings, Jordan Hamric, Stormy Nesbit, Katlyn Shelar and Chene Townswend.

Live results from the race can be found at WVUsports.com with final results posted following the completion of the competition.
