Richardson Nationally Ranked on Vault, Floor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior gymnast Alaska Richardson is nationally ranked on vault and floor in today’s GymnInfo Poll.

The Dayton, Ohio, native is ranked No. 46 (9.838) on vault and No. 47 (9.838) on floor. She was ranked No. 9 on floor last week.

As a team, the Mountaineers (2-2) are ranked No. 18 (48.988) on vault and No. 19 (48.775) on floor. Following a third place, 192.125 finish at then-No. 15 Utah on Jan. 19, WVU fell out of the nation’s top 25 rankings. The Mountaineers check in at No. 36 (193.4) today. The team also ranks No. 49 (47.988) on the uneven bars and No. 51 (47.65) on the balance beam.

Michigan moved up one spot to No. 1 (196.942), while Oklahoma ranks No. 2 (196.825), Florida No. 3 (196.817), UCLA No. 4 (196.788) and Alabama No. 5 (196.513). Today’s rankings are based on season average.

Regionally, the Mountaineers rank No. 6 in the southeast. The squad’s highest ranking comes on floor, as WVU ranks No. 3 behind the Gators (49.15) and Maryland (48.85). The Mountaineers also rank No. 4 on vault and No. 7 on bars and beam.

Richardson owns the team’s highest regional ranking and checks in at No. 7 on floor. She also ranks No. 13 on vault.

Three Mountaineers join Richardson in the vault rankings, as junior Hope Sloanhoffer ranks No. 17 (9.813), freshman Jaida Lawrence ranks No. 22 (9.788) and senior Kaylyn Millick ranks No. 24 (9.775).

Millick also ranks No. 10 on floor (9.788) and No. 17 in the all-around (38.363), while Sloanhoffer ranks No. 13 (38.638) in the all-around and is tied with junior Erica Smith at No. 19 (9.725) on bars.

Sophomore Lia Salzano is the lone Mountaineer ranked on beam and checks in at No. 17 (9.725). Additionally, freshman Melissa Idell ranks No. 25 (9.713) on floor.

The Mountaineers rank No. 2 overall in the Big 12 behind the Sooners. They also rank second on vault and floor, and third on bars and beam.

After one week at No. 4, Richardson ranks No. 2 on vault. She dropped from the top on floor to No. 5.

Sloanhoffer and Millick each own three conference rankings. Sloanhoffer is ranked No. 6 on vault, No. 7 in the all-around and No. 8 on bars, while Millick ranks No. 8 on floor and in the all-around, and No. 9 on vault.

Salzano ranks No. 7 on beam, while Lawrence ranks No. 8 on vault and Smith ranks No. 8 on bars.

The Mountaineers close out their three week season-opening road trip at No. 24 NC State on Friday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m., at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, N.C.
