MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – As the gymnastics team prepares to open its 2013 home season on Feb. 1, West Virginia University officials are planning several exciting promotions for the Mountaineers’ meets.
“I’m ready and excited to officially kick off the Big 12 gymnastics era at WVU this weekend,” says Mountaineer coach Jason Butts. “Friday will be a very fun meet and a great atmosphere. After three weeks on the road, we’re thrilled to open our 2013 home season at the WVU Coliseum, and we hope these promotions provide a great incentive for Mountaineer fans to come cheer for us. We have the greatest fans, and we’re excited to finally share our gymnastics with Mountaineer Nation.”
The Mountaineers (2-3) open their inaugural Big 12 Conference season and play host to No. 2 Oklahoma, along with Western Michigan and William & Mary, this Friday, at 7 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum. Friday also is the first of two designated “Dollar Days,” with all tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Coke products available for purchase for just one dollar. Additionally, the meet is a “Poster Day,” and the 2013 WVU poster will be available for all fans to pick up.
After a successful first run in 2011, the popular “Beauty and the Beast” promotion will return to the WVU Coliseum on Sunday, Feb. 10, at 3 p.m. The Mountaineers will meet Iowa State on the floor, while the WVU wrestling team will simultaneously compete against Ohio. Tickets for the meet will be available at the door for one dollar each courtesy of United Bank.
The Mountaineers will hold the “Wendy M. Roach Invitational” on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m., against Michigan, New Hampshire and Towson. The invitational, named after former WVU gymnast and current student assistant Nicole Roach’s mother, is a “Pink Meet” to promote breast cancer awareness. All fans are encouraged to wear pink that day.
Additionally, WVU will welcome the NCAA Morgantown Regional Championships on Saturday, April 6. A time for the six-team competition will be announced at a later date. Tickets for the championship are now on sale and available online at WVUGAME.com or by calling the Mountaineer Ticket Office at 1-800-WVU-GAME. Tickets are $12 each when purchased in advance, and groups of 10 or more can receive a special group rate of $9 per person. Group tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets will be available at the door for $15 each on the meet day.
The Mountaineer Ticket Office is now offering a Varsity Sports Flex Plan, a bargain for families who plan on attending a WVU varsity sporting event. Flex plan packages are available for just $20. A package provides 10 vouchers redeemable for single game tickets at any of these WVU sporting events: baseball, gymnastics and wrestling.
