MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman cross country runner Sydney Scott
placed sixth at the United States Cross Country Championships with a time of 21:11.3 on Saturday in St. Louis, Mo.
With her top-six finish in the junior division, Scott qualified to represent Team USA at the 2013 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Bydogoszcz, Poland on Sunday, March 24.
“It is such an honor for Sydney, West Virginia University and the entire state of West Virginia,” coach Sean Cleary says. “Many in the distance running world believe the World Championships to be the toughest and most competitive running race in the world. We are so proud of this accomplishment.”
Scott will be competing for Team USA and will join former All-American Mountaineer Kate Harrison at the World Championships. Harrison took second at the Canadian Cross Country Championships in November to qualify for the senior division.
