MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 25-ranked West Virginia University gymnastics team will collect donations for Morgantown’s Betty Puskar Breast Care Center prior to the “Wendy M. Roach Invitational” this Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m., at the Coliseum.

Fans are encouraged to bring sundry items, such as scarves, nail polish, books, lotion and socks, for donation to the Center. A collection bin will be located at the Coliseum Blue Gate, with members of the WVU women’s soccer team collecting the items. No monetary donations will be accepted.

The donations are being collected in memory of Wendy Roach, the mother of former WVU gymnast and current student assistant Nicole Roach. The meet, against No. 3 Michigan, New Hampshire and Towson, is a “Pink Meet” in support of breast cancer awareness, and all fans are encouraged to wear pink.

“This is a cause that is really important to this team,” says Mountaineer coach Jason Butts. “We we want to honor Nicole’s mom and raise awareness about a disease that affects many people. We hope that these items will have a local, positive impact on our Morgantown neighbors that are fighting the battle against cancer. We’ve asked the other WVU women’s teams to donate, too, with hopes that all the Mountaineers can bring a smile to our supporters’ faces.

“I’ve had several family members receive hospice care, and I know what type of positive impact simple gifts like these can make. It’s always exciting to receive little gifts, and we hope these donations can help those affected forget about their struggles for just a minute. Mountaineer Nation is always quick to help, and I know that our fans will step-up this weekend and donate items for us to give.”

The Coliseum gates will open at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Fans can purchase tickets at the door, with all tickets for adults available for $5, while just $3 each for youth and seniors. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $2 each.

A free WVU student shuttle bus will be available from the Mountainlair and the Brooke/Braxton Towers loop for an hour leading up to the meet’s start time. Return service to the Mountainlair and the Brooke/Braxton Towers loop also will be available at the conclusion of the meet.
