MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team completed its first ever Big 12 Indoor Championships on Sunday in Ames, Iowa at the Lied Recreation Center.
The Mountaineers totaled 20.5 points for a 10th place finish, while No. 5 Kansas won the meet with 150.5 points and edged out No. 13 Texas who came in second with 148 points. No. 12 Iowa State placed third with 142 points, while Baylor and Oklahoma State rounded out the top five with 72 and 48 points, respectively.
“I am very pleased with many of our performances the last few days,” coach Sean Cleary says. “It is very unfortunate that a large number of key performers were sidelined in the last few days with flu and injury, but I will say that I am proud of this group and their efforts.
“Kelly (Williams), Chené (Townsend) and Sydney (Cummings) had very good performances. Our group will emerge from this with strong character and will prepare for our next meet with great focus and determination.”Chené Townsend
started off the day for the Mountaineers by finishing fifth in the 60-meter hurdles final with her second-best time of the season at 8.47. Kelly Williams
followed with a fourth-place finish in the mile final with a time of 4:48.73.Sydney Cummings
continued her successful senior campaign by tying for fourth place in the high jump with a leap of 1.71 meters (5-07.25).
