MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Big 12 Conference has named 98 student-athletes to the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 Swimming & Diving Teams, including 18 Mountaineers, announced league officials.

Among those honored, three in the entire conference were nominated with a 4.00 grade point average, all West Virginia student-athletes – David Palley, Sloan Storie and Jenelle Zee.

“It’s great to have this number of student-athletes earn this honor and we hope the number continues to grow through the years,” coach Vic Riggs says. “We also are proud of David, Sloan and Jenelle, who truly demonstrate what it means to be a student-athlete.”

The two teams are comprised of 72 honorees on the women’s side and 26 selections from the three men’s squads that compete in the Big 12.

West Virginia’s 16 first-team honorees are seniors Rachael Burnett, Breanna McCann, Mandie Nugent and Storie, juniors Eva Burlingham, Hayley Kidd, Liam McLaughlin and Peter Murto, and sophomores Christopher Brill, Nathan Cobbe, Julie Ogden, Jennifer Rey, Meredith Rogers, Haily VandePoel, Palley and Zee.

Second-team honorees include senior Austen Carrington and sophomore Daeton Davenport.

First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.

Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
