MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University track and field runner Kelly Williams
is set to compete in the mile at the Columbia Last Chance meet at The Armory in New York, N.Y. on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 6 p.m.
Williams is currently ranked No. 22 in the country in the mile with a time of 4:38.47 and looks to improve her time to qualify for the national indoor meet. Following the completion of competition this weekend, the top 16 marks in each individual event will earn qualification to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Mar. 8-9 in Fayetteville, Ark.
is the only one traveling this weekend and we are hoping that her mile time stands up to qualify for the NCAA Championships,” coach Sean Cleary says. “Our hopes are that Kelly has recovered from her bout of sickness and last weekend’s competition. We have faith that she is ready to go.”
Last weekend, Williams took fourth in the mile with a time of 4:48.73 at WVU’s first ever Big 12 Indoor Championships in Ames, Iowa. Williams also ran a leg of the distance medley relay team that finished third with a season-best time of 11:29.91.
