The Mountaineers (4-6) are coming off a weekend at Myrtle Beach, S.C., in which they went 1-2, highlighted by a 4-0 victory over UMBC. Junior left fielder Jacob Rice continues to lead WVU at the plate, batting .474 (18-for-38) with five runs, two doubles and eight RBIs. Boyd is off to a hot start and is hitting .390 (16-for-41) with a team-leading nine runs and nine stolen bases. WVU is batting .304 as a team with 17 doubles, one triple, two homers, 46 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. The pitching staff carries a 4.78 ERA and has struck out 48 batters. Eastern Kentucky is led at the plate by Sean Hagen, who is hitting .474 (9-for-19) on the year with one double and five RBIs. Matt Phipps is batting .333 with one double, while Bryan Soloman is hitting .323 with two doubles and a team-leading seven RBIs. The Colonels are batting .293 as a team with nine doubles, one homer, 33 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. WVU holds a 7-3 edge over Eastern Kentucky in the all-time series record that began in 1983. The Mountaineers swept a doubleheader in Morgantown in 2011. |
