Williams to Compete at First NCAAs

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University runner Kelly Williams is set to compete in the mile at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on Mar. 8-9.

Williams will run in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m., ET on Friday, with the top 12 moving on to the final on Saturday at 7 p.m., ET.

This is the first NCAA Indoor Championships for Williams as the Chesterland, Ohio, native enters the race ranked No. 12 with a personal-best time of 4:36.77. Williams recorded that time this past weekend at the Columbia Last Chance meet in New York, N.Y. Williams’ time shaved nearly two seconds off her former personal-best time and is ranked No. 3 in WVU program history in the mile.

In her first season on the indoor track, Williams has only competed in the mile on four occasions, and has broken into the top-5 in WVU program history in the event on two of those occasions. Williams garnered All-Big 12 accolades at the Big 12 Indoor Championships on Feb. 24 with a fourth-place finish in the event.

ESPN3 will stream the meet live on March 8 from 6:30-10:30 p.m., ET and March 9 from 7-9:30 p.m., ET. A tape delay of the championships will air Sunday, March 17 from 7-9 p.m., ET on ESPNU.
