West Virginia University volleyball freshmen Brittany Sample and Anna Panagiotakopoulos, along with assistant coach Sara Kidd, traveled to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., to participate in the U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryouts.

During the tryouts, athletes competed for spots on the USA Women’s Volleyball National Team program, U.S. Women’s Junior National Team, or the USA Women’s Senior A2 Team. A record 247 athletes participated, including 60 outside hitters, 57 middle blockers, 56 liberos, 49 setters and 25 opposites. A total of 90 different colleges were represented on the roster.

Sample, Panagiotakopoulos and Kidd talk about their experience at the U.S. Olympic Training Center and the things they learned from competing against other top athletes from across the nation.

WVU began spring practice this past Monday and will open its spring slate on March 23 with a tournament at Duke.
