Track Posts Seven First-Place Finishes

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Seven first-place finishes paced the West Virginia University track and field team at the California (Pa.) Early Bird Meet on Saturday.

Heather Adams notched two first-place finishes in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.97 meters and the discus with a mark of 45.99 meters. In the pole vault, the Mountaineers took the top three spots with Katlyn Shelar placing first with a mark of 3.85 meters, while Kiley Defibaugh and Lindsey Kopenhaver came in second and third, respectively.

In the 400-meter dash, Shakiyla Cosby took top honors with a time of 59.03, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Cosby, Arielle Gaither, Ashanti Bess and Christa D’Egidio also placed first with a time of 3:56.63.

D’Egidio and Gaither also recorded first-place finishes in the 800-meter run and the 400-meter hurdles, respectively. D’Egidio recorded a time of 2:17.78, while Gaither posted a time of 1:05.19.

Allison Pettit and Sarah McCauley were the top finishers for WVU in the 1,500-meter run with second- and third-place finishes, respectively. Pettit finished with a time of 4:51.32, while McCauley finished right behind her with 4:51.47.

The Mountaineers return to the track for the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., on March 29-30.
