WVU ranked in Current Directors' Cup Standings

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University currently stands in 46th place in the 2012-13 Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup first winter standings.
WVU has compiled 253.60 points to date. WVU picked up 174.60 points in the latest poll, with rifle’s first-place NCAA finish contributing 100 points. Women’s swimming (43 points), women’s indoor track and field (23 points) and wrestling (8.6 points) also counted toward the school’s latest standing. WVU’s gymnastics team will compete in the NCAA Southeast Regionals on Saturday in Morgantown.
WVU ranks fifth among Big 12 schools, with Texas at No. 8, Oklahoma State at No. 23, Oklahoma at No. 29 and Iowa State at No. 33.
Stanford leads all schools with 685.50 points, followed by Penn State (674.50), Notre Dame (610.00), Michigan (606.00) and Florida (575.50).
WVU has finished in the top 50 in the Directors’ Cup standings for five consecutive years, including last season’s 45th-place finish. WVU finished 40th in 2011, 37th in 2010, a school-best 30th in 2009 and 50th in 2008.
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 20 sports – 10 women’s and 10 men’s.
