MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia women’s soccer team opens its spring season tomorrow, April 7, against Duquesne as part of the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center Soccer Invitational. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is slated for 1 p.m.

“We are looking forward to competing against somebody other than our selves finally,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “The spring season is an important time where we as a coaching staff can mix things up and not worry about results. It’s about building on each day and improving throughout the course of the spring.”

The Mountaineers will wear their pink Nike jerseys in a final effort to raise money and awareness for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center. Admission is free and open to the public for all home matches.

West Virginia loses five seniors from last season’s squad that finished with an 11-5-4 record and No. 16 ranking in Soccer America’s final poll. It was a memorable 2012 season in which the Mountaineers won the school’s first Big 12 Championship and advanced to a 13th consecutive NCAA Tournament – the nation’s ninth longest streak.
